2 Ingredient Natural Homemade Hand Soap
This cheap and easy to make DIY hand soap has squeaky clean ingredients and doubles as a body wash or even shampoo. Simplify your natural home hygiene system; this soap is great for all ages and lasts forever between refills!

Why Make Your Own Hand Soap?
- Healthier: Making a simple swap to a healthier soap can greatly reduce exposure to toxins, especially when we wash our hands multiple times a day. And, as an added bonus, this soap makes a nice lathering body wash. The boys in our home even use it as a shampoo substitute!
- Simplified Home System: As a mom of multiple young children, I am always looking for ways to save on time. Since toddlers sometimes enjoy using 12 pumps of soap at a single hand-washing, I don’t want to refill dispensers daily! I love how this recipe can be scaled up and added to large soap dispensers, so they do not need to be refilled as often. I use this style for the kitchen sink (where the kids can’t reach as easily!)
- This soap has multiple other uses! See 5 examples below.
Additional Uses For This Castile Soap Recipe
- Shampoo and body wash
- Dog shampoo
- Shaving cream substitute: this recipe produces a nice lather. We haven’t bought shaving cream in years!
- Homemade hand or baby wipes: simply add 4-5 pumps to a pint of water and pour over paper towels or cloths.
Note: use distilled water if you won’t use up the wipes within a week or so - Household cleaner: Use the homemade wipes above to spot clean or add to water for mopping

2 Ingredient Natural Homemade Hand Soap

This cheap and easy to make DIY hand soap has squeaky clean ingredients and doubles as a body wash or even shampoo. Simplify your natural home hygiene system; this soap is great for all ages and lasts forever between refills!
TOOLS YOU MAY NEED:
1. If you already own pint-sized mason jars, all you need are these screw on tops to turn the liquid into foam. If you do not have any pint-sized mason jars, you can use these soap dispensers.
2. Castile soap (we like this brand)
3. Water (tap water is fine)
MATERIALS:
1. 12-16 ounces water (use boiled or distilled water if soap will not be used up within a few weeks)
2. 2-3 TBSP castile soap
Instructions
1. Fill your foaming soap dispenser with water, leaving 1 inch of head space.
2. Add 2-3 TBSP of liquid castile soap to the water.
3. Close the lid and shake lightly to mix.
4. Use as you would any foaming soap.
Notes
- Add the water BEFORE the soap, or too many bubbles will be created.
Enjoy your clean, bubbly, healthy soap! I hope this simple recipe helps you feel empowered to switch out other home-products for healthier options as well! For more inspiration, check out the other natural living and home systems posts.
